Mediation

What is mediation?

Mediation is negotiation between two or more individuals with the help of a neutral third-party; namely, the mediator.  The role of the mediator is to facilitate a process through which the participants can work out an agreement that is satisfactory to them.  The mediator does not impose a solution on the participants.  The mediator is neutral in the sense that he is impartial and has no stake in the conflict.  In addition to often being faster and less expensive that other ways of resolving conflict, mediation also gives the participants the opportunity to develop a solution that is closely tailored to their needs.
